About Mount Orford National Park

Mount Orford National Park is located in the Eastern Townships region of Quebec, Canada. It encompasses a dramatic landscape dominated by Mount Orford itself, a peak rising to 853 meters (2,799 feet), providing panoramic views over the Saint-François River valley and the surrounding Appalachian foothills. The park is characterized by dense forests of maple, birch, and conifers, supporting diverse wildlife such as white-tailed deer, black bears, beavers, and numerous bird species including the peregrine falcon. Established in 1938, the park has a long history of conservation and outdoor recreation. Visitors can explore over 50 km of well-maintained trails winding through mountainous terrain, offering a range of hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing opportunities. In winter, the park's ski center provides alpine skiing and snowboarding facilities. Beyond recreation, Mount Orford is known for its geological features, including ancient rocky outcrops and glacial formations. The park also protects important ecological habitats where visitors might spot rare plant species. Key landmarks include the summit lookout with a panoramic vista and Lac Stukely, a serene lake popular for swimming and canoeing. The park’s blend of natural beauty, varied activities, and accessible location near urban centers makes it a favored destination for both day visitors and overnight campers.
